Product Description |
| Moderately priced companions to Wüsthof's renowned Classic forged knives, Gourmet Series knives have the same full-tang, three-rivet, virtually indestructible poly handles as Classic knives. Instead of being forged, however, Gourmet Series blades are cut from steel sheets by precision lasers. That means they have no bolsters. But it also means they are perfectly shaped and fit their handles seamlessly. And the blades' high-carbon stainless steel is identical to that of Wüsthof's premium knives, only thinner. The three paring knives in this set equip a kitchen for all essential "little" tasks. One knife has a 3-inch blade with a straight edge and a drop point, ideal for uniformly cutting carrots into disks or peaches into slices. Another has a 3-inch blade with a curved edge and a sharp point, ideal for peeling fruits and vegetables and removing blemishes. The third has a sharply curved blade known as a bird's beak for shaping vegetables. All three knives are dishwasher-safe, but hand washing is recommended to protect their edges. --Fred Brack |

Excellent knife set
|
| Review Date: November 26, 2008 |
| Reviewer: M. Domingo, maryland |
I bought this knife set mostly because i needed a paring knife. I also wanted the Wusthof brand since all of my other knives are that brand and have proved to be of superb quality.
The price is what attracted me to this set. I figured it would be better to get more knives for this price rather than one paring knife for about the same price. At first, wasn't convinced that I would use the other two knives with the set until I received them. Now i use the other two more than I use the paring knife. I use the curved knife for boning chicken theighs and for cutting the joints when I'm carving a whole chicken. Its the perfect size. The other utility knife I use for small cutting jobs like cutting a small piece of cheese for a snack or cutting the ends off of an apple, peeling an orange, or even cubing other veggies. These knives are very sharp and don't lose their edge easy. They are also very easy to sharpen. I recommend these to anyone! |
I Love these knives!!!!!!

| Reviewer: Qualityman, LA Calif |
I really only use the 3 in paring knife. I have had this set for many years and recently bought it for a relative who was very pleased I did. The peeling and straight utility knives are seldem used but its nice to have them when you need them. The steel used in Wusthof knives seem to take and hold an edge better than any other knife I own. The 6 in chef knife completes the other 5% which is used for bigger jobs.
This place has great prices for the best of the best. Shipping was quick and the Amazon payment system works great. |
Set of small paring knives
|
| Review Date: January 19, 2009 |
| Reviewer: P. Lawrence, Texas, USA |
| Three wonderful small sharp paring knives which are incredibly sharp and great to use for a variety of small cutting tasks. This it the first time I have bought and used Wusthof paring knives, and I thought the ones I had were quite satisfactory until I used the Wusthof knives. I will never go back to using economy knives again - I have been spoiled. |
Handy & great price

I love Wüsthof. The "3-Piece Paring Knife Set" is no exception. It's very useful and the set comes at a great price. I can recommend every Wüsthof Knife I own and certainly the ones I ordered at Amazon. When I first started purchasing this brand many years ago I thought they were the best even at the full price I always had to pay. On sale they are a steal!

Excellent!
|
| Review Date: September 4, 2007 |
| Reviewer: Joanna Daneman, Middletown, DE USA |
This set gives you a santoku, which is a small Asian-style slicing/chef knife with the characteristic hollows on the blade, and a small paring knife. They are made by Wuesthof, a German firm that makes top grade chefs' cutlery.
The santoku is nicely weighted and works well for tasks like chopping herbs, slicing and dicing. The hollows on the blade are designed to allow air to release what you are slicing from the blade surface. It has a flat edge, meaning there is no point sticking up when you have the edge lined up with the cutting board.
The paring knife looks cheap and lightweight, but it is NO lightweight. It has a very thin blade compared to the usual utility/paring knives in chefs' sets but the small blade dives into cucumber peels, makes short work of trimming and garnishing. I find I reach for this knife more often than my usual paring knife.
I am no fan of cheap cutlery. My steak knives are from my grandmother's set and are still fantastic and my own chef's set is probably 30 years old. I rarely buy knives (in the last 30 years; a bread knife, a cleaver are all I added to the standard set.) I was surprised how much I liked these knives and how well they complimented my current workhorse set.
Whether or not you adore Emeril as a chef, you can certainly admire this set of knives, and unless you have a superstition about a gift of knives, this makes a wonderful housewarming present, wedding present or anything for your favorite cook. |

| Review Date: April 10, 2008 |
| Reviewer: Y. Muthafar, |
I love this knife (the 7"), it's one of the best I've ever used cuts really thin slices of just about anything with ease. It has a great feel to it (very light and controlable), the rubber grip is very comfortable and I always reach out for it when I start cutting.
I went ahead and bought the 8" chef's knife from the emerilware line, Im quite happy with it but I still think that this one is better. I also have an 89.99$ J.A. henckels 7" santoku that I use, but I still prefer this knife to all.
The only setback is that it needs sharpening quite often, I use the wusthof mini sharpener and it works like a charm.
The 3" is a bonus but I really don't use it that much.
Highly recommended. |

The sharpest knife in the block
|
| Review Date: September 14, 2009 |
| Reviewer: Oleg K, Ohio, USA |
This is very sharp knife! Comfortable handle, useful shape of the blade, sharp, makes precise fine cuts. Everything one would expect from a ceramic knife. With all the pros and cons. Kyocera will resharpen this knife for a fee (around $10), but I can't comment on that because I didn't have the knife long enough.
The peeler is also very good, with ceramic peeling blade.
I would definitely recommend this set as an addition to you fine-steel cutlery block. |
Great addition
|
| Review Date: February 5, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Aragon, TX |
| This knife & peeler and the santoku were received as gifts. They certainly are way different than steel blades. They look like toy knives. Take them seriously as they are extremely sharp. I slipped with very little force on the knife and it cut right through my thumbnail. No pain, it stopped short of cutting flesh, barely. Get careless with this knife and you will bleed. For some tasks I prefer my Henckels Pro S. But for peeling tomatoes the ceramic is king. So little pressure is required and control is better than with the stainless knife. I have not used the peeler yet. The knife is so good it's unlikely I'll need the peeler. These knives require special care and they are a great addition to fine stainless knives but not the best if it's your only knife. Superb gift for someone who has lots of cool stuff in the kitchen. |

| This is a great combo at a good price. I recommend ceramic for all fruits and vegetables as they slow down oxidation. (apples don't turn brown) Kyocera is a great company just a little expensive but well worth the money. |

| Reviewer: wshae43, Oregon, USA |
| I love these knives (this is my third). And the peeler is pretty incredible; this is the second one I've bought and couldn't be happier with the quality and sharpness. It only allows you to peel away from you, so it's a little tricky for apples but for straight veggies it's excellent. |

| This knife and the peeler as well fit nicely in your hand, the knife cuts like butter and the peeler is the best one I've ever used. Previously I had tried out a ceramic knife and found it lacking so I was very pleased that the Kyocera is the cutting edge! |
It is seriously that sharp.

| Review Date: June 10, 2010 |
| Reviewer: D. Artz, |
I just got mine in the mail today and the first thing I did is start cutting stuff.
I used all of my old cutting knives (7 year old cutco) and compared it against this one... HOLY C>R>A>P!!!!
I effortlessly cut through a raw potato!!! I cut a piece of the potato and laid it on its side (a circular cross section). Then i proceeded to make 1-2 MM cuts across the entire cross section. I had 50 mini fries that were super thin.
Then I started to cut apples the long way (if the core is North/South I was cutting east to west). Basically these slices look exactly what you get from "apple chips" bags. I bet if I let them sit out and dry they would taste pretty good. Also another cool thing: the apples were dead white, they did not start to turn brown and oxidize...this knife is amazing. I'm buying one for my dad for his birthday. |

| Love the knife....stays sharp (forever), just not practical for twisting operation (such as deboning chicken), since the knife will break. |
Don't buy the set if you're left-handed; Only get the knife
|
| Review Date: July 2, 2010 |
| Reviewer: Anshuman Duneja, San Francisco, CA United States |
| The knife is great, but the peeler only peels in one direction so is unsuitable for lefties who peel using an outward motion. When I looked at the peeler I thought it would be simple enough to just flip the blade around to make it work for me. Wrong! Whoever designed the peeler designed it so that the blade cannot be reversed because the holes that the blade goes into are different diameters on each side. It's a terrible design decision that'll make me think twice about buying handed devices from this manufacturer. |

Product Description |
| Made in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts, at American's oldest continually operating cutlery factory, are knives that will please the most particular of chefs. From the gorgeous riveted rosewood handle to the hand-honed hi-carbon steel edge, each knife is truly a work of art. Each knife is touched by hand over twenty different times during the manufacturing process. These are beautifully finished, well-balanced, finely honed knives that you will use with assurance and pleasure for a lifetime. A paring knife is the piece of cutlery you tend to have the most skin to blade contact with as you peel fruits and vegetables. For this reason alone you should be sure your paring knife is of the highest quality, with a well-honed sharp edge, because as every one knows a dull knife is most likely to cause injury as it slips across food instead of slicing. |

- Hi-carbon, stain-free steel with triple-riveted rosewood handle
- Hot drop forged, full tang
- Bolster's added thickness and weight adds force, balance, and safety

It holds a good edge once you get it sharp enough. It also has a great feel to it in my hand and is a beautiful piece of craftmanship. I just love it! |

Product Description |
| This two-piece cutlery set includes the two hardest working knives in Asian cooking. The 3-inch straight-edge paring knife peels fruits and root vegetables for cooking. The 7-inch Japanese santoku knife--a cross between a butcher knife and chef's knife in European cooking—-splits, chops, dices, and slices meats, vegetables, and fruit. Like all santokus, this one has a straight edge for precise chopping and also has a hollow edge (with indentations the size of fingerprints running along the edge of the blade) so that foods don't stick to the blade during slicing. Part of Wüsthof's popular Classic line of cutlery, these knives have a very traditional design. Blades are hand forged from high-carbon steel so they retain their sharp edges longer and are easier to resharpen, plus they include a stain-resistant alloy. Blades are also ground and polished by computer to ensure perfect tapering from tip to bolster. A signature feature of Wüsthof knives, the weighted bolster gives these knives the perfect heft. For balance, full tangs extend through the synthetic handles and are triple-riveted for strength. --Cristina Vaamonde |

Super-thin slicing knives
|
| Review Date: August 10, 2003 |
| Reviewer: K. Sheley, Austin, TX United States |
| These Santoku knives have the fantastic Kullenschliff, also called the Granton, edge for extremely finely-honed thin slicing. They slice quickly into whatever width you want, from slivers to less thin pieces, with only a modicum of practice. The sharp flat cutting edge, safely lower than the handle, makes for an easy, comfortable grip. These knives have multiple uses--not just slicing for Asian-style food, nor, for that matter, just for thin slicing. One can chop, dice, or slice safely and quickly with these finely made instruments. I have a large collection of Wusthof knives, but this style is one of my favorites and most frequently used. |
Love 'em!
|
| Review Date: August 15, 2004 |
| Reviewer: R. A. Joslyn, South Miami, FL USA |
I guess I write a lot of enthusiastic reviews, but I generally feel motivated by fine products - and these knives are among them.
I have a set of the Classic knives, but the one I use the most is the santoku chef's knife. I just prefer it to the "normal" chef's knives with the "French curve." So when this set popped up in my Gold Box, I jumped!
They feel sturdy but not heavy in the hand, and the hollows along the edge really do release the food more easily than the straight-edged ones. The paring knife is more cute than anything else. The santoku shape really doesn't add to its functionality, although it is a nice little paring knife.
Keep this set close at-hand, because you'll find yourself reaching for them all the time, as I do.

Great set!

| Review Date: April 10, 2005 |
| Reviewer: S. Strickland, |
I've had this set for about 5 months now and it is WONDERFUL. Great combo of top quality knives. They are very well balanced. The Santoku can be used to cut anything from raw chicken to veggies and will cut as thin as you can bring yourself to try! The paring knife is a good compliment for smaller items.
Overall, this is a GREAT all purpose starter set. I would recommend getting some sort of storage for it though. I am about to order the 10 piece classic set because I love these so much!. |
Excellent knife set, highly recommend!
|
| Review Date: April 14, 2006 |
| Reviewer: Amalfi Coast Girl, Mid-Atlantic, USA |
If you prep a lot of fruits and vegetables in your kitchen, this is the set for you.
The Santoku knife is lighter than a standard chef's knife. But this is what makes it so wonderful on fruits and vegetables. I have used it to carve prime rib (just to see how if worked) and it performed just as well as my chef's knife, except that it is a little smaller.
I find that I use the Santoku 90% of the time in my kitchen. If you are diminutive female, this knife feels right in the hand since it is a little smaller than a standard chef's knife. I love the blade on this knife. It holds an edge much longer than my non-Wustof knives.
The paring knife is nothing special. But it does have the same nice hard blade that is on the Santoku.
You will not be disappointed in this purchase if you love to cook.

This best-in-class commercial grade cutlery is now available for home use. RH Forschner by Victorinox knives feature high carbon, stainless steel blades, hand finished at Victorinox in Switzerland by skilled craftsmen. A special tempering process is used to produce an edge that can be resharpened over and over again, so the knife can keep its original sharpness throughout the entire life of the blade. Victorinox handles are ergonomically designed to minimize wrist tension. They provide a natural fit. A good heft and comfortable, positive grip are indications of a well-made knife. A sure-grip handle with a finger guard is valuable feature since the handle inevitably gets greasy, wet, or both. Although cutlery steel is naturally sanitary, materials and construction details of the handle minimize crevices what would offer hospitality to bacteria. |
